November 2025 Workshop Summary: Events Highlights

The workshop this month was on events highlights and aimed to recapitulate where a large team of statisticians within an organisation might send one person to an event, who would then feedback to the rest of the team. In total, we heard about five events/conferences that took place in the last six months:
- The Environmental and Ecological Statistics Conference, Sponsored by TIES and ESS RSS, which took place at Lancaster University. Presented by Eleanor D’Arcy (Environment Agency)
- The RSS International Conference, in Edinburgh, focusing on the NABES panel discussion “Helping statisticians thrive within the environmental, agricultural & biological sectors”. Presented by Hayley Carr (Babraham Institute)
- The IBS-NABES Joint Workshop, jointly organised by BIR and UKNABES. Presented by Teri North & Jen Dillon (Rothamsted)
- The US-UK Scientific Forum on Measuring Biodiversity for Addressing the Global Biodiversity Crisis, jointly run by the National Academy of Sciences (US) & the Royal Society (UK), Washington DC. Presented by Philipp Boerschsupan
- ISI World Statistics Congress, the Hague. Presented by Andrew Mead (Rothamsted)
It was great to hear about the interesting sessions that happened across this range of events, and gain insight into key themes across different areas.
